2012 Conference - Berkeley

Our 44th annual conference, will be held May 3-5, 2012, at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton at the Berkeley Marina in Berkeley, California.

The keynote speaker will be Vicki Ruiz (University of California, Irvine). Her keynote is titled "Las Dos Luisas: Latina Feminist Thought, 1900-1930."

There will be a special session to honor the work and activism of Eileen Boris (University of California, Santa Barbara).

Conference Registration

The pre-registration deadline was March 29, 2012. Pre-registration will no longer be accepted.

Onsite registration will be available, but meals may not be available for purchase onsite.

Conference Hotel Information

All conference activities will happen at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton at the Berkeley Marina in Berkeley, California. To make a reservation, call 800-559-4655 or book online using the above link.  Mention either "Western Association of Women Historians" or three letter group code of "WAW" to receive the conference rate of $139 (single or double, plus 12.07% tax). If making an online reservation, use "WAW" as the group code of the "Special Accounts and Rates" area. This rate is valid until April 12 or until the hotel sells out. Other travel information is include in the conference program.

WAWH Authors- WAWH Conference Bookseller

The Western Association of Women Historians has arranged with The Scholar’s Choice to manage the combined book exhibit for our annual meeting. It may be possible for your recently-published books to be included in their display. Any WAWH members interested in having their book displayed at the upcoming WAWH meeting should contact their publisher as soon as possible.  The Scholar’s Choice displays on behalf of the publishers and all requests must come from them, not the individual authors. If they don’t already have it, the press may request the appropriate paperwork by emailing Mary Lynn Howe at mlh@scholarschoice.com.

2012 Proposals The submission deadline has passed.

Each proposal should include three parts: 1) a completed cover sheet (see below), 2) a one-half to one-page abstract for each paper submitted, and 3) One-to-two-page curriculum vitae for each panelist.

Email proposal to wawhconference2012@wawh.org by 11:59pm on September 15, 2011. Save all three parts of the proposal for each presenter (whether an individual paper or a panel) as a single word document, naming the file as lastnamefirstnamewawh2011. For a panel, the file name should be the name of the contact person.

The Western Association of Women Historians was founded in 1969 to promote the interests of women historians both in academic settings and in the field of history generally.

Drawing scholars from the Western states, the WAWH is the largest of the regional women's historical associations in the U.S.

The WAWH encourages the participation of academic historians and independent scholars, and welcomes literary scholars and art, theater, and film specialists.
